Libretto / Libretto HD (CD Player)
After years of development, a system has been built that is free from the disturbances that cause undetectable distortion at higher harmonics (which our ears are very sensitive to). This has allowed us to produce a fundamentally different sound quality compared to what we’re accustomed to with CD technology. In the Libretto, the analog and digital circuits each have their own dedicated battery. We didn’t even use a DC-DC converter, which could also be a source of interference. The monitoring and charging of the batteries is fully automatic, requiring no special attention.
The Philips CD-PRO2 Industrial mechanism is directly and rigidly connected to the Libretto. There are no springs, rubber, or unstable suspensions: all vibrations are conducted away through special lenses. The bamboo material of the housing functions as a tensioned support.
This is followed by a hybrid solution, a high-resolution (24-bit/192kHz) DAC with a highly refined analog stage. The output features American transformers with a frequency response extending into the megahertz range. The transformer driver stage does not include any negative feedback.
The HD version features a digital input that accepts a standard S/PDIF signal via BNC or RCA connectors (BNC is strongly recommended over RCA).
The analog outputs are studio-standard 600 Ohm XLR and RCA connectors. (A digital output is not available on the Libretto HD.)
The entire housing of the device is milled from solid bamboo.
